A select group of people have dropped in this week to bid Houdini adieu. Despite our best efforts, her colitis has remained largely unchanged. She's alive, hydrated, and as well as possible — but it's just not well enough. She's lethargic and uncomfortable, although not above a nice bask in a sunny window, as this picture was taken yesterday shows. At 14, it's time.Lise has graciously offered her help to take Houdini and I to see v-e-t Daren one last time this evening. She has been a wonderful and interesting companion to both myself and to her feline friend George who crossed this same bridge in February.
So today I'll leave you with a haiku, written by her friend and neighbour from Elm Street.
Gentle Houdini,
long Arborea's dragon,
prepares departure.

Wendy, I am so so sorry for you.My heart is so sad for you. I do know what you are going through, I wish there were a way to help. That is a great picture of her you have posted. It's the first one I've seen of her. She is beautiful.
Goodbye Houdini. You have been good and social and attentive, and will be missed by many.
Wendy: You have done exceptionally well with Houdini (and other critters too, but especially her). This is indeed the last thing you can do in her best interest.
Awww Wendy..this is so very sad..i'm so sorry..I just loved hearing you talk about her... :-( You were a good parent, these things are never easy!!
How sad! And two in a year! I am sad for you!
Very, very sad; my most heartfelt condolences; really there is no consolation in these circumstances...
Oh Wendy, I'm so sorry to hear the news. It sounds best for her, though. Goodbye Houdini, sweet dreams.
I'm soo sorry!! It is incredibly hard to lose a pet. I've never been close to an iguana but I imagine it's just like any other pet. The hardest part of being a good pet guardian is knowing when it's time to say good-bye. I will miss the pictures of her.
Wendy: It's the last and greatest gift we can give our creature companions. I shed a tear for your Houdini. She will meet you at the Rainbow Bridge.
Les
So sorry to hear this...what a beautiful creature. I think she knows that you love her very much and want the best for her. My best to you and Houdini....you two will meet up again I am sure of it.
I'm so sorry. I'll be praying for you.
Oh Wendy! That so largely sucks. I know it will be hard for you, but that you have gained the strength to deal with the passing of critters through saying good bye to George. It's comforting though, that you at least were given a chance to say good bye. I'm sure those who passed by her sitting in the window will miss her too. Take care.
Wendy,
So very sorry for your loss. Your friend's haiku was a gentle and graceful goodbye.
You Canadians with your crazy pets! Sorry for your loss -
It was with sadness, but also with utmost respect that I too had to say goodbye to Houdini last night. She was more than just "someone's pet". Houdini taught me many thing s over our 11 year relationship. She permitted me to do many things to her that others would not tolerate, and would let me know with an occasional flick of the tail that she was not impressed.
She will be truly missed.
Wendy, your love & dedication for Houdini went above & beyond admiral. Your love, compassion and knowledge is a lesson for us all in life.
Your friend,
Daren
aka The vet
So sorry, Wendy; you gave Houdini a great life, and though you'll miss her, you can have no regrets. You've had a tough year, and you're in our thoughts.
Wendy, I'm so sorry to hear this news. Hugs to you
RIP Houdini. May he enjoy endless flies and sun-basking in his future.
What a beautiful animal. Perhaps some more pics?
My heart goes out to you. Houdini and George are now free to enjoy the day as they always did.
:( Sorry to learn of your loss. Even when it's time it still hurts.
